The goal of the Judson Child Find Office is to locate, identify, and evaluate all children with disabilities who are in need of Special Education and Related Services who reside within the Judson Independent School District boundaries. If you suspect that your child may not be developing the same as his or her peers or if your child has been previously diagnosed with a disability, you may call the Judson child Find Office at (210) 619-0365
Referrals can be made by:
- Parents or guardians
- Early Intervention Agency
- Adult Student (18-21)
- Teachers (Handled at the school level)
All documents must be received before the screening process can begin.
- After the initial referral is made, the following paperwork is required:
- Parent Information Form
- Proof of Residence
- Copy of Birth Certificate
- Copy of Social Security Card
- Current immunizations Documentation of Legal Custody, if applicable
The evaluation process begins with a 15-20 minute screening to determine if testing is recommended and to determine what types of tests will be given. If testing is recommended, it will be used to determine eligibility and the child's level of functioning in the areas of cognition, physical (vision, hearing, gross and fine motor), communication, social/emotional, and adaptive/self-help. Parent input is always a valuable part of the evaluation process.
If your child is tested in any of the areas listed above, you will be invited to attend an ARD (Admission, Review, Dismissal) meeting. This is a committee made up of parents, teachers, administrators, and anyone else having a vested interest in the child. Testing will be reviewed and determination of eligibility will be made based on the needs of the child and the results of the testing. Again, parent involvement is essential to building a partnership between the school, the child, ant the parent.
